Anthony Burns-The defeat and Triumph of a Fugitive Slave (pgs. 42-65)

Summary: So after Anthony wad caught and put into jail he had to be put to trial. This was because it was a right were he had ran away that even blacks get fair trials. When he is brought to the court he doesn't know what to do. He doesn't know whether to go against his old master Mr.Suttle and try to keep his freedom or if he should just go back to his master and just live with the consequences.Anthony is highly confused and just can not make up his mind so the judge decided to let Anthony have another week to decide what he wanted to do whether it was to just give up or to actually try and be free. As the days went by one night Anthony became a symbol of hope for many people. It actually came to the point that Mr.Suttle was being watched and fallowed by many black men. He became so scared that the men were going to lynch him that he actually hired body guards.

Quote: "A man was stolen Last Night By the Fugitive Slave Bill Commissioner He will have His MOCK TRIAL On Saturday on May,27 in the Kidnappers Court Before the Honorable Slave Commissioner At the Court House in Court Square Shall Boston Stael Another Man?"(Hamilton 55).

Reaction: This quote is important to this story because this is a leaflet that showed that people were actually believed in what was going on was wrong and not fair. People actually got more hope for freedom by believing that Anthony was a chance for more people could get freedom.
